Another three points and the first time this season that we have recorded back to back wins. However I can't help but feel that the team didn't benefit from that game in terms of improving their tactical elements for the Real Madrid game on Wednesday. Ancelotti and Ronaldo will be licking their lips looking at our defense concede two goals to a team that is at the foot of the BPL.
I can't wrap my head around the fact that we had to rely on two own goals to beat a team that last season we would have blown away 4 or 5-0. Obviously we don't have Suarez anymore but how long can that excuse last for? The Sturridge injury is also an inconvenience but last season was a team effort not the work of two men. They did score a combined total of 51 goals last season which is unbelievably clinical but there are still another 50 goals that game from other players. However so far this season, every game we have played I sit there and think not one of these players look like they are going to score today.
The defense was once again diabolical. Enrique hasn't looked the same since he returned from injury, I never expect anything from Johnson, Lovren continued his disappointing start to his Liverpool career and Skrtel was as bad as he always is. I don't understand what it is with Skrtel he is the only defender who everyone thinks is good but why? He was the highest scoring defender last season with 7 but he also scored 4 own goals and was part of a defense that conceded 50 goals and consequently cost us the league.
Conceding 2 goals today was to be expected, £32m was spent on Lovren and Moreno and the loan of Manquillo and yet the defense looks worse, but this time we don't have the goals of Suarez to out score teams. It's really starting to become a concern when you go into every game knowing that you are going to concede a goal, and with the players not looking like they know how to score we never look like winning a game.
Coutinho's goal was excellent I loved the way he cut inside and drilled the shot across the keeper and into the corner also his pass through to Sterling that led to the second own goal was so pin point it was exquisite. Definitely the best game he has played all season but considering his inconsistent form it remains to be seen whether he can replicate this form for the Real Madrid game.
